UnisaMUN 2016 Secretary General’s Welcome Letter

Dear Delegates, fellow MUN enthusiasts,

welcome to the website of UnisaMUN, the University of Salerno Model United Nations. It will be the fourth edition of this Model UN located in the beautiful region of Campania in the south of Italy, close to the famous Amalfi coast. Our General Theme this year is Rethinking Global Leadership: thinking ahead in a fast changing world. It is aimed at the people, which make MUNs the special events they mostly are: the young leaders of tomorrow.

Most big speakers emphasize the role of young leaders. We want to go one step further by gathering together and discussing the issues which will be global issues for the coming generation. Eventually every policy branch has its own problems: Security, Environment, Social and Development. Therefore, we are simulating four very different committees to tackle pressing problems of today and tomorrow: the Security Council, the Assembly of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Today, thanks to Globalization, the problems of one region are also the problems of the entire world community. This is why the beginning of the 21st Century is a turning point in global politics and international relations. We now live in an era of great uncertainty. However, it is up to us how we want to shape the world and how we want to leave it for coming generations.

By attending UnisaMUN, delegates will learn how to debate very complex matters and, in the end, find a consensus among far apart positions. It will sharpen negotiation skills and encourage one’s own ability to listen, understand each other and working together in the spirit of progress. But in the end the hard work will bring a revenue. One person alone can’t make a difference, but many, struggling for the same goal, can indeed.

In this spirit, I hope to meet as many of you as possible in Salerno.

Yours sincerely,

Kevin B. Rodgers
